The impregnation can be made by an adequate before-treatment which will assure the colourfulness, sharpness and adhesion of inks. After printing with the pigment ink it is necessary to thermally polymerize these components. And, in some cases, it may be necessary to refine the fabric further in various ways.

Fabric printing with reactive colours is currently the least ecological way of printing. Reactive colours request energy-demanding steaming for their fixation. They also require subsequent repetitive washing out of the colours which did not hold as these can be toxic to the skin. During the washing out process it consumes a huge amount of clean water. The process demands many steps, and also textile know-how and experience. Reactive colours chemically bond only with pure cotton, which is why by this method it is not possible to print on synthetic materials, neither on mixed fabrics.
